May 7: 5 percent of all cases of lupus are in children. About 20% of systemic lupus patients are diagnosed before 20 years of age. In the majority of these individuals, the illness begins around the time of puberty, or 12 to 14 years of age.

I have to say, I really am enjoying your lupus facts. My great grandmother passed away when I was in middle school and suffered from lupus most of her life. I never knew much about the disease before now, and really appreciate you bringing light to it for me!
