Ghost Costume Ideas

October 11, 2010

This year, we're going to a costume party for Halloween (yay!).  Not just any costume party though, it will be a murder-mystery costume party.  If you haven't been to one of these, they are so. much. fun.  We attended our first party of this nature a few months ago for our two of our good friends' birthdays.  That party happened to be western themed, and although our costumes were thrown together at the last minute, it was still a lot of fun!  This time, however, I will be prepared.

The themed party works like this:  prior to the event, you receive information regarding the character that you will portray so that you can dress accordingly.  Mine happens to be a ghost.  On the email I received , it suggested creating a costume out of a sheet, like this:

Borrrr-rrring.

I'm thinking something more like this:

Or maybe like this (Helena Ravenclaw):

Either way, I think a few "musts" of my costume are:
  • white tights & gloves
  • vintage/worn attire, preferably a dress
  • white face paint (although, as pale as I am, I may not need it :P)
Let the search begin!  Anyone else wearing a Halloween costume or attending any parties?

I Judge Books by Their Covers

I also select wine by the beauty of it's bottle.

I hope it tastes as good as it looks.

Hope you enjoy a relaxing weekend!  Happy Friday!

In our next house..

October 7, 2010

at least one wall will be painted like this:

Can you believe they were all created by stencils*?  I think these are a great alternative to wall paper (to which my husband strongly objects.. I don't blame him- it's pretty, but a pain to put up/take down) and wall decals.  I love that they are reusable.  They also seem relatively easy to use and they definitely add beauty to a space.

Check out this before & after using stencils:

*Cutting Edge Stencils has no clue who I am and does not pay me to blog about them.  I just think their stuff is really cool :)

I ordered FLOR samples...

October 6, 2010

...and my husband hates them.

Like the lovely Sugar (of Modern Organinc Living) suggested, I've been on the hunt for an area rug (probably 5' x 8')  for our living room.  I've heard so many good things about FLOR, so I decided to peruse their website for some inspiration and came across a few rugs that I really, really loved:

I'm leaning adding toned-down teals or blues in the way of either a rug or throw pillows or both.  I really want a rug with color just because I think a neutral color would be hard to keep clean (especially with two pups that like to roll around in dirt every once and a while).  I'm really happy with FLOR's service- $5 for three samples and it took about five days to arrive in my mailbox, so I wouldn't discount ordering from them.  I also like the idea of having a rug that's more versatile (replacable pieces in the case of stains/ the ability to size down a larger rug to mix things up or relocate it).

I think the problem here is that my husband tends to be a "big picture" person.  He has a really hard time visualizing the final outcome during the in-between stages (uh, this happened while I was planning our wedding).  Maybe I need to create an inspiration board just for him....

Hippo Footstool

October 5, 2010

We spent most of last weekend unpacking/ moving out from the small storage space we had been renting.  A few furniture pieces and several boxes of unpacked wedding gifts later are now scattered around our living room and dining room.  Slowly, but surely, I am finding a place for everything.  (Gosh I hate moving, packing, unpacking).  I'm still trying to find inspiration photos for our living room update, but lately I haven't come across any room pictures I absolutely love.  I take a liking to a few small details, but the rest I could do without.  One example (although I'm not sure my husband would agree):

They're so cute!  I think they would be perfect for a study or reading area.

I do kind of love the blue accents against the neutral furniture (in the above picture).  X was not entirely sure of this idea when I mentioned it to him in passing, though.  I'm really trying to find a color scheme to tie our living/dining areas, together but, again, I haven't found a color/pattern that I really love.

"Before" pictures of our house are soon to come.  The weather change here in Austin has made being outside absolutely enjoyable and I seem to be spending more time a way from my computer screen than I intended :)
